Traffic Ordeals This Week

Overnight Closings for Subway Construction

Closed: Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) at Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) Overnight Jan. 9-14

The southbound lanes of Route 123 at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) may be closed overnight between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 14. The exit ramp from westbound Route 267 to southbound Route 123 also would close concurrently.

Traffic will be directed to detour by turning left on Great Falls Street, right on [Old] Chain Bridge Road, then right on Anderson Road to rejoin the southbound lanes of Route 123.

These closures are expected to continue intermittently overnights as needed over the next two to three weeks as the bridge construction moves over Route 123. All lane closures are weather dependent.

Nighttime Westpark Bridge Closures Rescheduled

Westpark Bridge, which connects Westpark Drive to Tysons Corner Center over Route 123, is rescheduled to begin overnight closures Sunday night, Jan. 9. Bridge construction crews using the blue-and-yellow crane (called a truss) will be lifting segments into place over the road, and traffic will not be allowed to travel underneath for public safety reasons.

The bridge will be closed Sunday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Jan. 14, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. All dates are weather permitting and subject to change. Drivers should expect Westpark Bridge to be closed some overnights through the next few weeks until the bridge work is complete and the truss moves west toward Tysons Boulevard.

Traffic on Westpark Drive will be directed to detour by staying on Westpark, turning left on International Drive, then left on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) to enter Tysons Corner Center on the right. An alternate route would be to use Tysons Boulevard, which also allows drivers to turn left on International Drive to Chain Bridge Road.

Saturday Night, Jan. 15: Westbound I-66 Closed at Dulles Connector Road (Route 267)

I-66 westbound is scheduled to close overnight at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) split Saturday, Jan. 15, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., for Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project construction. Crews will be doing bridge work over the interstate.

For safety reasons, traffic cannot flow under this construction work. Thru traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road westbound, then on to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn on to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway. Local traffic can use exits prior to the detour area.
