Update: Nearly 1,000 McLean Residents Without Power Tonight

Concentrations: The Reserve, TowlstonRoad

Update: Nearly 1,000 of our neighbors are without power tonight because of damaged power lines.

The worst hit: More than 350 residents in and around The Reserve, a subdivision of estates with million dollar price tags. Nearly 450 in the area around Towlston Road and Route 7.

There are scattered outages around the area, according to a map provided by Dominion Power online.

Earlier About half of The Reserve, one of the toniest addresses, in McLean is without power.

TheDominion Power outage maps shows that more than 350 customers are without power in the area around Spring Hill, Old Dominion and Georgetown Pike.

The Reserve has underground power lines but they are connected to lines above the ground along Old Dominion and Georgetown Pike. Apparently the Georgetown Pike side without power this evening.

"I don't like having to sit and work in a coffee shop because I have no power," said Carol Howell,  a realtor who lives in the Reserve,  who was spending the evening at Greenberry's.

Update: A neighbor who lives near Georgetown Pike just north of the Beltway reports he and neighbors are without power. The Dominion Power outage map shows about five residents in that area are without power.

It appears that less than 100 McLean residents remain without power. The largest appears to be a pocket of nearly residents without power near the CIA. Now that's unusual. If you live near CIA you almost never lose power, so neighbors have said.

Earlier: Power returned to downtown McLean about 4p.m. The power was off for about 30 minutes affecting the U.S. Post Office, J.Gilberts, the many beauty salons located in the area and stranding office workers in elevators.

About 300 residents were still without power according to Dominion Power.

Rocky Jones as stuck in an elevator  on Old Chain Bridge Road for about 30 minutes. He was greeted with cheers and hugs when he merged about  4 p.m. "I feel liberated," he said. "There is so much light out here."

He just left his office to get something to eat, got to the first floors and the power went out. Friends slipped candy bars through the elevator doors.

Sait Solak, a hair stylist at London Hair and Nail on Beverly Road said, "It just suddenly went out. Tina was doing a manicure and she couldn't finish."

Then the power returned just a quickly and the manicures and hair styling continued as if nothing had happened.

 

Earlier: A major swath of downtown McLean is without power including J. Gilberts, U.S. Post Office, McDonalds, the Ashby and McLean House lost power about 3:30p.m.

The affected area is located generally betweenn Old Dominion Drive, Dolley Madison Boulevard and Beverly Road. This is the area of McLean usually without power when the wind blows too hard.

The Starbucks in downtown McLean and the shops behind it were also without power.

Rocky Jones was stuck in an elevator at 1310 Old Chain Bridge Road.

"I left my office to get a sandwich. I got to the first floor and the power went off," he said.

 

Earlier:Nearly 350 McLean residents were without power this afternoon, according to the Dominion Power outage map.

The largest number of home were located along Old Dominion Road just north of Kirby Road.

The Starbucks in downtown McLean was also without coffee. They were giving out coupons for free coffee later on.
