The McLean Ear: Popular Downtown Restaurant Closes After a Year

McLean 1910 closes.

Alas, McLean 1910 one of McLean's newest downtown restaurants, closed last week.

The restaurant opened the day after Thanksgiving in November 2010 in the Langley Shopping Center on Chain Bridge Road.

Owner George Kapetanakis has been in business in McLean since 1978 (33 years!) running the McLean Family Restaurant on Chain Bridge Road.

MFR is the place to see some of McLean's best-known neighbors and eat some of the best and least expensive food in town. It's a favorite Newt Gingrich eatery.

The Ear visited Kapetanakis Wednesday to give our condolences. He was off. Brother Peter said the restaurant closed because it had been losing money for a while.

The Ear's usually reliable sources reported that George Kapetanakis visited the restaurant Valentine's Day and found — shall we say — a chaotic situation. That was that.

In October, the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce gave Kapetanakis its award for The citiation said:

"He believed that McLean needed a new casual-upscale American restaurant so in November of 2010 he opened McLean 1910.

"1910's mission is to not only provide the best food the area has to offer, but to create a distinct dining experience unlike any other.  He has enlisted the help of his kids to help run the restaurant with his daughter, Constance, there full time and his son, Nicholas helping out as well."

Signs on the doors of the now shuttered McLean 1910 report that Bistro Vivant (unknown to The Ear) opens this month.

Stay tuned. Get ready to welcome new neighbors to town.
