Did U.S. Justice Department Discriminate at Holder Speech Today?

Justice Department Closes Event to Media

Attorney General Eric Holder spoke in McLean this morning at Madeira school  in honor of  Dr. Martin Luther King, whose birthday we celebrate this weekend.

Only Maderia alums were invited. But one of the writers for McLean Patch is a Madeira alum. She sent Madeira a note that she was coming and would write a story because we are always courteous.

We were startled when she was told she could attend as an alum but not as a journalist.

Could this possibly be discrimination based on job from the department that enforces our anti-discrimination law? The U.S. Justice Department has been a mighty enforcer of laws that prohibit discrimination based on race, gender, age, etc.

We asked the the public information office at the Justice Department could this  possibly be a form discrimination based on what a person does? We're waiting to hear from them.

Private institutions are allowed to invite whom they want to their events. The question here whether they can prohibit some guests from doing their jobs while attending an event. Would an institution invite a doctor and then say you can't help anyone who gets sick?

The alum did not feel discriminated against and she said she

understood Madeira's position.

Among Madeira's many illustrious alums is the late Katherine Graham, the courageous and legendary publisher of The Washington Post.

Under these rules, Mrs. Graham could attend but not write about the event for The Post.

Holder's two young daugthers attend Madeira.
