UPDATE: Turnout Less than 3 Percent for Republican, Democratic Primaries in Dranesville District

Primary Day for Republicans, Democrats for Senate, Congressional Seats

UPDATE 6:07pm:  Here are the McLean precincts with the large turnouts so far today. That means perhaps 5 percent of registered voters have cast ballots.

Chesterbrook, El Nido,  Haycock,  Kirby, and Westmoreland. These precincts are considered Democratic precincts. El Nido is the most heavily Democratic precinct in McLean.

UPDATE: 4pm Voter turnout in both the Dranesville District and Fairfax County remains under three percent, according to the latest numbers from the Fairfax county Board of Elections.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Both Democrats and Republicans have primaries today. Republicans can vote in the U.S. Senate primary and Democrats have a primary in the 8th Congressional District which now includes the lower half of McLean.

UPDATE: 2:48 p.m. Less than 10 percent of the nearly 75,000 voters in the Dranesville District had turned out to vote so far in either the Democratic of Republican primaries today, according to the Fairfax county board of Elections.

The races include: U.S. Senate. All Republicans can vote for the four Republicans seeking the nomination.

The southern half of McLean is located in the 8th Congressional district where the Democratic incumbent James Moran faces one challenger.

The northern half is located in the 10th Congressional District where incumbent Frank Wolf has no primary opponent.

Reminder: If you live south of Dolley Madison Boulevard, you are now living in the 8th Congressional District where there is a congressional primary.

1. Poll Hours. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. The Fairfax County Board of Elections has sent you a card if anything about your voting has changed.

2. What ID do I need? The state's new ID law that the governor signed in May  takes effect July 1 and therefore has no bearing on today's primary election.

Republican Primary - Senate

In the Senate Republican Party Primary, voters across the state will choose among , , and . The winner will run against Democrat .

Democratic Primary - Eighth Congressional District

For the 8th congressional district, a Democratic Party Primary ballot pits longtime incumbent  against newcomer . The victor will face Republican in the general election. Independent must gather 1,000 signatures to get onto the November ballot in the 8th District race. The deadline is Tuesday.

No Primary in Tenth Congressional District

Republican Congressman Frank Wolf, who has represented Northern Virginia's 10th District since 1981, has no opposition from fellow Republicans. He will face Democrat Kristin Cabral in the general election, and possibly J. Kevin Chisholm, who is reportedly gathering signatures for a run as an independent candidate.

4. If your precinct is holding both a Republican and a Democratic primary, you need to chose the one in which you wish to vote. Remember in Virginia you do not register by party.
