 Where and When to Vote

The last day to register to vote was Monday, Oct. 17. Complete information on absentee voting is available on the Fairfax County government website.

Due to statewide redistricting, some voters may be going to a different polling location than in past years, even if the voter has not moved. Find out where to vote here.

WHO’S ON THE BALLOT

McLean residents will be selecting two state senators,  3 house delegates, and Dranesville school board member and Dranesville Supervisor.

 Favola, Merrick: State Senate – District 31

Republican Caren D. Merrick (website, Facebook, Twitter), a businesswoman, is challenging Democrat (website, Facebook, Twitter), a longtime Arlington County board member. They are competing for retiring Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple’s seat representing the hugely reconfigured 31st district.

 Forrest, Howell: State Senate – District 32

Republican (website, Facebook, Twitter) is running against incumbent Democrat (website, Facebook). Forrest is a former senior official in the Department of Homeland Security. Howell has served since the early 1990s.

 Comstock, Danner: House of Delegates – District 34

Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock is running against Democrat Pamela Danner,  an attorney.  Comstock (website, Facebook, Twitter) was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2009. Danner (website, Facebook, Twitter) is an attorney, small business owner and has served in many local leadership capacities.

 Keam: House of Delegates – District 35

Democrat Mark Keam (website, Facebook, Twitter) is running unopposed. He has served in the House of Delegates since 2010.

Brink, Murphy: House of Delegates – District 48

Incumbent Democrat Bob Brink is facing challenges from independents Kathy Mallard (website) and Janet Murphy (YouTube). Brink (website) has served in the House of Delegates since 1998.

FAIRFAX COUNTY

McLean residents are part of the Dranesville district of Fairfax County. You can find out which district you live in on the Fairfax County government website.

 Board of Supervisors Chair

Incumbent (website, Facebook, Twitter)is being challenged by Republican (website, Facebook), Independent candidate Will Radle (YouTube) and Independent candidate Christopher DeCarlo (website).

 Dranesville District Supervisor

Incumbent John Foust (website) is facing a challenge from Republican Dennis Husch (website).

Fairfax County Sheriff

Republican is facing current in this election. Cooper (website, Facebook) is a former deputy sheriff lieutenant.  Barry (website) has been Fairfax County Sheriff for 12 years, though there is some controversy over as it relates to his potential re-election.

 SCHOOL BOARD

Seven candidates are running for at-large seats on the Fairfax County school board.  In addition, voters will choose a school board representative from the Dranesville district.

FAIRFAX CO. SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DIRECTOR

Voters may vote for up to three people for the position of Soil and Water Conservation Director, Northern Virginia District. The candidates are:
