McLean Donors Making Large Campaign Contributions to Obama, Romney
Well-known McLean residents support presidential candidates.
The national finance co-chair of John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign, a new member of the Airports Authority board, and a well-known Tysons Corner developer are among McLean's major contributors to the Mitt Romney campaign.
A "father of the Internet," the former chair of the Democratic National Committee and a former U.S. Secretary of Labor are among McLean's major contributors to the Barack Obama campaign.
Romney, the Republican presumptive presidential candidate has raised nearly $675,000 from large donors with McLean addresses. He has raised a total of $3.8 million from large and small donors in Virginia, according to recent reports from two nonpartisan groups that track campaign finance, the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) and Open Secrets.

President Barack Obama has raised nearly $410,000 from McLean supporters making large contributions. The president has raised a total of $3.6 million from Virginia donors large and small, according to the same reports.
Mitt Romney's McLean contributors include Fred Malek, McCain's finance co-chair; Caren Merrick, whom the governor recently appointed to the Airports Board; Ted Georgelas, who is building the first Tysons Corner project under the new "city" plan. Romney's largest single donation came from Kenneth Kies, one of Washington's most respected tax lobbyists.

Obama's McLean contributors include Vinton Cerf, widely known as an Internet father; Terry McAuliffe, former DNC chair; and Alexis Herman, U.S. Secretary of Labor to President Bill Clinton.
Obama's largest single donations came from Cerf and Diana Smith, who is affiliated with SNR Denton, a worldwide law firm.
McLean's 22101 ZIP code is among the top 20 United States ZIP codes for presidential fundraising in 2012 with a total of $5.2 million. A Las Vegas ZIP code tops the list.
