Public Meetings: How to Get Riders to New Subway Stations

Four Tysons subway stations have no parking

McLean residents will be get three chances to question and tell Fairfax County officials about how riders  want to walk, bike and take buses to get to one of the four new subway stations now under construction in Tysons Corner.

Major question for McLean residents --- can we actually walk or bike to any of the stations. The closest station to McLean: the one at Anderson Road and Dolley Madison Blvd.

The three public meetings during the week of March 21 are part of the Tysons Metrorail Station Access Management Study, created by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2009. In plain English the county has to plan how to get riders to these stations because  none has parking. That's right --- no parking --- just like in a city.

Why no parking? Remember the four Tysons stations triggered the plan to turn the urban blight of Tysons Corner into a planned city of 40,000 people in about 25 years. The Fairfax Board of Supervisors adopted that plan last year.

A fourth, mid-day meeting is also being planned somewhere in Tysons Corner so employees can give input as well, county staff said.

At the meetings, county staff will answer questions and give presentations about three concurrent studies that will also be used to recommend transportation improvements: the Fairfax County Transit Development Plan (TDP), the Tysons Corner Sidewalk Analysis and

A final report of recommendations will be presented to the Advisory Group in June. Another public meeting in July will unveil those results to residents.
