3:30 pm. The aftermath of Irene.The Starbucks in downtown McLean is still closed because of Hurricane Irene.

J. Gilbert's, a popular restaurant on Dolley Madison Boulevard, will open at 5 p.m. It was closed most of the day because of a power outage in parts of downtown McLean caused by Irene.

The Ashby, the McLean House, The Post Office and their neighbors all have had their power restored.

Thousands of Fairfax and McLean neighbors remain without power.

·        Current Power outages are listed as 38,958 customers (9%) out in Fairfax County (Dominion Virginia Power, NOVEC). 

o   Dominion is targeting re-establishing power to the largest power outage areas and critical facilities by 6 pm. today.

o   Full repairs are expected to take several days.

·    Multiple Fire Stations are on emergency power.

o   Fire Station 10 has slight flooding inside (remains operational).

·   VA Task Force 1 is en route back to the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Training Academy for staging for potential deployment elsewhere.

·        18 Wastewater Pumping Stations without normal power: Accotink, Arcturus, Barcroft I and Barcroft II, F-Street, High Ridge, Holmes Run, Jones Point, Langley Court, Langley School, Little Hunting Creek, Merrywood, River Towers, Waynewood I and Waynewood II, Weid, Wellington I and Wellington II are currently running on emergency generator power.

o   All pumps and controls are operating under normal operation with no issues.

·        Robert McMath Facility that houses the 24/7 Trouble Response Center for Wastewater Emergencies has had commercial power restored. 

·        Noman Cole Wastewater Treatment Plant has had the secondary power feed re-established. 

·        Parks & Rec Status:

o   All RECenters have power and are operating on normal schedule.

o   The following are without power:

§  EC Lawrence Park 

§  Green Spring Gardens Park

§  Riverbend Park

§  Clemyjontri Park

§  MLK Swimming Pool

o   Burke Lake Park has power, but no amusement operations today.

·        Three houses have been reported as damaged.

o   1504 Woodacre Drive, McLean, VA - has had extensive structural damage, including downed wires and has been placarded as uninhabitable. Homeowner has been notified.

o   2206 North Trinidad Street, Falls Church, VA - Home has been determined to be uninhabitable. The homeowner was on scene and has been notified.

o   1707 Fox Run Court, Fairfax, VA has been deemed habitable.

·        Several roads closures remain in effect throughout the County due to downed wires, trees, and flooding. 

·        No requests for debris removal have been received in the EOC.

·        FMD will be conducting an inspection of County facilities over the next couple of days to look for damage, in addition to responding to damage cells.

Large parts of McLean remain without power.

10:09am. Part of downtown McLean have been without power since about midnight.

The area is located between Old Dominion Drive, Dolley Madison Boulevard and Chain Bridge Road and includes the Post Office, The Ashby, and McLean House.

Traffic lights are functioning in downtown except for the signal at Old Dominion and Beverly.

Lots of debris in streets.

9:33am. Fairfax County reports: Downed trees, flooding and power outages from Hurricane Irene are causing some traffic disruptions including closed streets.

Here is a list of closed streets in Fairfax. None appear  to be in McLean. But we have downed trees in McLean.

There are many intersections where the traffic signals are out, so drivers should treat these as four-way stops.

Original story: Many McLean neighbors awakened this morning with no power. In Fairfax County nearly 75,000 households are without power in the wake of the wind and rain brought from Hurricane Irene through most of yesterday.

Good news: The worst is over. We saw the sun for 10 seconds this morning. Really!!

The county has reported no deaths or injuries because of the storm.

Here's the Dominion Virginia Power number to report outages and downed wires: 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357), TTY 711.

Fairfax County said in its emergency blog said, "As the sun rises this morning, Hurricane Irene may have caused downed trees. Here are the numbers to call to report downed trees based on their location.

In all cases, stay away from downed wires near downed trees. Electricity can travel through tree limbs. Never remove tree limbs or other items that are touching or near a downed wire.

The county reported at 2:15 am that Hurricane Irene was beginning to diminish in Fairfax County. The National Weather Service predicts another 0.5 to 1 inch of rain until daybreak. Sustained winds will be 25-30 mph with 30-40 mph gusts, slowly diminishing Sunday afternoon, the county said.

Dominion Power has nearly 2.5 million customers in Virginia and North Carolina. Nearly 1 million of them are without power, according to Dominion Power statistics as of 6am Sunday morning.

Outages in McLean stretch generally from Towlston Road to the Arlington County line.

National Weather Service Forecast: Today: Tropical storm conditions possible. A chance of rain before 10am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 24 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. North wind between 6 and 9 mph.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. North wind around 7 mph.
