Tonight: Both Eastbound Dulles Roads Closed

Portions  of both the  eastbound Dulles Toll Road and Dulles International Airport Access Highway near Route 7 will close  Wednesday, June 22, and continuing nightly through Friday, June 24.  Traffic diversions will begin at 7 p.m. each night, and normal traffic patterns will be restored by 5 a.m. the following mornings.

Here are the approximate times that closures will begin.

Wednesday, June 22:  Full night closure of eastbound Dulles Toll Road and Dulles International Access Highway near Route 7
·         7: p.m.                  The left lane of the westbound DIAAH will close.
·         7:30 p.m.               The right lane of the eastbound DIAAH also will close.
·         8 p.m.                    ALL eastbound DIAAH traffic will be diverted on to a single westbound
                                       lane.  At this time, westbound DIAAH will carry two-way traffic.
·         9 p.m.                    he three left lanes of the eastbound Dulles Toll Road will close and all traffic
                                        will be diverted to the right lane
·         10 p.m.                  ALL eastbound Dulles Toll Road traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound
                                       DIAAH to proceed to their destinations
Closures will be picked up in reverse order, to be completed at 5 a.m. on Thursday morning.
 
Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24 (back-up date, if needed): Full night closure of eastbound Dulles International Access Highway near Route 7

·         7 p.m.                   The left lane of the westbound DIAAH will close near Route 7.
·         7:30 p.m.               The right lane of the eastbound DIAAH also will close near Route 7.
·         8 p.m.                    ALL eastbound DIAAH traffic will be diverted on to a single westbound
                                       lane. At this time, westbound DIAAH will carry two-way traffic.
Closures will be picked up in reverse order, to be completed at 5 a.m. on Thursday morning.
 
The closings are necessary because rail construction crews will be working on a large concrete structure that will straddle two piers on each side of the eastbound DIAAH.  The exit to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) will remain open.  Periodic closures of the DIAAH and/or the Dulles Toll Road will occur through July 2011 as bridge crews work over the roadway. The detour will remain the same. These will be included in our weekly traffic advisories as the work is approved.
